Photographer's Note

Another photo taken in the mines of Cerro Rico in Potosi.

We can see that the working conditions are very hard, minors are still working with the shovel and the pickaxe, and rubble is extracted from the mine by means of a wheelbarrow pushed by these minors. Simply having raised this wheelbarrow (I should say I simply tried to do it), I can say that to push it running as they do it in the galleries of the mine is a true physical exploit. To attenuate the difficulties of this hard labour, the minors are fond of sheets of Coke to chew (their swollen cheeks are seen) and of alcohol.
