Photographer's Note

Cerro Rico is the name of this mountain in Potosí. It's height is 4824 metres. There was a big exploitation of silver, especially in the past. Spanish rulers of Bolivia forced Indians and black African slaves to mine silver. In this mountain died 8 million people, much more than in Auschwitz! Silver and other metals are extracted in this mountain also nowdays. Miners live average to 40 years age, then they die soon because of lung silicosis. Many children are working here as well. It's possible to go to mines to excursion. Potosí is on of the highest cities in the world, it lies in altitude 4050 metres. It was not easy for me to breathe here, especially first day.
