Série sobre minha viagem a USHUAIA - TIERRA DEL FUEGO (TERRA DO FOGO) - ARGENTINA - AMÉRICA DO SUL - De 05 a 12 de Julho de 2008 - Nº 010!

(Series on my Trip to USHUAIA - TIERRA DEL FUEGO/Land of Fire/Tierre du Feu - ARGENTINA - SOUTH AMERICA - From July 5th to 12th, 2008 - #010!)

MUNDO DE GELO - WORLD OF ICE - MUNDO DE HIELO - MONDE DE GLACE - MONDO DI GHIACCHIO - From the highest point of the "Cerro Castor" (the mountain where the ski resort is - Beaver's Mount), looking towards the north, I could see the sunnier part of the island. Although the sun would reach that region more than in the southern parts of the "Tierra del Fuego", specially in the valleys, most of the time in the shadow during wintertime, it really looked like a complete world of ice!

"Nearly 500 years ago, a group of explorers from the Old World approached the coast of an unknown land for the first time.
Dispersed fires and columns of smoke from the natives seemed to float upon the waters, in the mist of dawn: this mystical setting probably gave the island its name: "Land of Fire". What once was a remote and inhospitable place today attracts thousands of people from all over the world." (Source:
