Photographer's Note

It s the year 4712 that begins today January 31, as it is the year of the horse, I chose a scene of a polo playing one
In the polo’s world, argentine horses are considerad very good if not the best
So my homage to both, the new year that begins and the great argentine polo horses

About the photo, taken just in the moment when the player is going to hit the ball (bocha) with a kind of stick ( called taco)

Origins: It appears to lie in Persia, where the game has been played for at least two thousand years, as artwork and contemporary writings indicate
Polo spread slowly across Asia where it was played by kings, courtiers and warriors as a way to kept them and their horses fit and ready for battle
The word polo is originated in Pakistan, where it means "ball" in Balti, a language native to that region

The Game
There are two teams of four players each and two referees, also on horseback
Each player has a long, flexible stick (taco in Spanish)which is used to hit a ball ( made of wooden)with the intent of driven it through the opposing team's goal.
Polo is played in periods called chukkers, each one, last seven minutes, in between there is three minutes to rest and make changes
Horses are replaced at each chukker, sometimes more than one is changed
