One of the most common eucalypts in our local area is the Eucalyptus Mannifera, commonly known as the Brittle Gum. It does have a habit of branches breaking off. In this photo it is the tree with light coloured bark leaning over. The lean on the tree is from it being in a very exposed windy location at the top of a cliff. You can see where at least one thick branch has broken off.
