Photographer's Note
No matter what, some of us just can't hide in the crowds.
Sheep ranch (relatively) near Gisborne.
Desaturated, because there was very little colour in the first place. Cropped, adjusted levels and toned.

That's a funny detail! :)
It could be seen as expressing the coexistance in community, for some campaign against racism.
Nice shot!

This kind of pictures manipulate the mind.
You can't see the eyes of the black sheep and yet I'm convinced of the fact that it looks and feels sad. It's not funny to be else.
Nice shot. I think a frame gives the shot more strength. I investigate this in a workshop.
Greetings.

This delicious animal would be having a complex that’s for sure
I had to look twice but is a real ( it thought it was the dog at first)
It would make a very good postcard
Very good capture
Thanks for making me laugh

I'm happy to see some of our 'few' NZ sheep, and the Black one certainly stands out in the crowd. Funny how it has quite a gap around him. Did the other sheep purposefully keep their distance from him, or was it only at that moment the gap opened up? Very interesting. Well captured and TFS Kari.

Ha ha ha! This is a real black sheep! Poor thing he's got nowhere to hide! But he seems to be standing tall so he must be ok. :-) Thanks for the laugh.

This is one of those pictures where you need a bit of luck for your subject to be there - and a sharp eye to spot it. Seems like you have both. I also like your choice to desaturate and tone, adding to the effect. I first thought of adding some more contrast, but I'm not sure it would be such an improvement. Excellent work!

A beautiful photo Kari! Great PP work with a funny title. I like it a lot! I noticed so many of the sheeps have their eyes on you they can hardly notice the black sheep at the moment. Nice work!

Nice photo, I love the isolated black sheep.
Shame about the sharpness, but great attempt.

Very interesting picture. This should be very difficult to be alone in this crowd. Godd idea to desatured picture.
Well done.

All my life I have been listening "you are the black sheep of the flock" but I had never seen that expression in image... until you photographed it.
Amazing, AMAZING, really.

Wow Kari, like this picture very much! Very well captured..
It seemed that you where not the only one who was seeing something special, they all look at you too.. which btw gives a nice effect.
The reason that this picture caught my eye is that I just LOVE sheep :o)
Keep on doing what you do!
Ciao,

I love hove the other sheep are taking distanse from the poor black sheep. I think it works very well in B&W. Normally I'm not foreign to a lot of contrast and some grain in B&W photos, but I like ho this is in a "dull" tone. Soft like the sheep.

Hi
No way it could hide between others...
It can be also understood in other way. In Poland we say "the black sheep in the drove" about somebody really bad between the others.
Nice and funny image.
Take care

Oh dear! I just click on your link "My own favourites" and I find that one. I can't believe it! The Black Sheep! The real and only one! No other like him (her?). Yes! I am in favor of black sheep! baaaaaaa!
Cute one Kari! It made me smile! ;)

Yes you, well spotted and an excellant POV although a more sepia brown colour might have been nicer (or is it just my screen that makes it a bit yellow)
Nice one

Iconic! Great potential in a stick catalog!!
I like it that the black sheep is looking at us while most of the white sheep are looking at it.
I'd be tempted to crop out the earth patch on the right. But with material like this, who cares??

Good idea, and good realization! It was indeed a good decision to desaturate, it emphasize the contrast. Well chosen DOF, and funny title :)
I don't know the original shot and what was cropped off, but wondering if it was a better composition if the black one would be moved to the left bit? If you don't mind I'm playing and publishing a WS version.
Anyway, great eyes you have!

Hi Kari. A classic NZ photograph. Good sense of humour shows through here highlighting the black sheep which stands out so well. Good work. Murray.

Helo Kari,
An oldie, but a goodie. I have seen it a few times before but it's always a pleasure to see it again. I wish I had taken it. I like the title too.
