Swamp forest, Ship Creek, a photo from West Coast, South Island

Photographer's Note

A dense piece of untouched rainforest. This is an area of swamp forest at a place called Ship Creek, just north of Haast in South Westland. This area is a good example of pristine rainforest in an area that receives around 300 cms of rain each year. native trees such as kahikatea & rimu grows in this saturated soil along with many other smaller trees, all of which are covered in mosses, lichens and liverworts. There are no nasty animals, only birds in this magical place.

Hi Neil,
You have captured well the essence of this place. Your narration does justice to the image and vice versa.
If there is an equivalent place in Australia I wouldn't be giving any guarantees about no nasty animals.

Hello Neil - I think you have captured the atmosphere of the swamp forest very well, I can imagine all manner of frogs, toads and bugs lurking here. I love the tree trunks which are clothed in moss and lichens and you have included a beautiful tree fern in your composition. The dark waters look to be full of tannins leached from the decaying leaf mould. A super nature shot. TFS and warm regards Rosemary
