Photographer's Note
Dawn at Milford Sound. Luckily for me my wife is a very patient and understand person. This was taken at sunrise on her birthday!
It didnt look like any colour was going to appear in the sky on this morning. It was all quite dark and overcast when I arrived about 30 minutes before this shot was taken. But then little by little the glow began to strengthen until this gorgeous pink appeared. Well worth the wait and what a fantastic location to be in for a birthday, despite the early start.

The perfection of your photos is amazing. Only a few can handle long exposure shots as successfully and beautifully as you do.

most definitely worth the wait, and I'd consider it a very worthy bday pressie (but then I love the peace and colours of early morning!)
Yeah... love the colours, Mitre Peak from a different angle (love the rocky shore in the shot)... and so lucky to see Milford Sound with so few low clouds :-)
Thank you so much!

Hi Adam
Was this photo her birthday present then as it's very beautiful.
The contrast between the transparent water and the smooth water is stunning as is the sky and the reflection. Excellent details of the rocks in the foreground.

Hello Adam,
A remarkable image. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Milford Sound and the Southland province of New Zealand. The composition with Mitre Peak to the left and Mt. Pembroke slightly off centre right is a wondrous thing, it’s unmistakable near silhouette has a looming quality about it. What sets this aside from a less impressive version of this scene (difficult to do, the place simply abounds in natural wonder) is the striking, vivid streak of orange tinged cloud that casts that warm hue/reflection across the fiord. As always with your work, you place a great deal of planning into your image composition and hear you give us a very pleasant FG to entice us into the wider image. The scattering of semi-submerged stones is awe inspiring. Divine quality, exquisite clarity. I just hope the sandflies did not plague you!
