Beach at Rarotonga, Cook Islands (Scanned picture)

The island is 32km in circumference. It was once mighty volcanic pyramid. There is only one bus route around the island - clockwise and anti-clockwise. With 1 Dollar (in 1985) you could do a round trip, stopping at every point you would like. I loved this relaxed atmosphere far away any touristic focus, and you have everything you need for a great vacation. A green central mountainous region and its highest parts (about 390m) with the cloud forest for some interesting walks, beaches with coconut palms for really interestign snorkling tours.
