Te Whakarewarewatangaoteopetauaawahiao, meaning The gathering place for the war parties of Wahiao, often abbreviated to Whaka by locals) is a geothermal area within Rotorua city in the Taupo Volcanic Zone of New Zealand. This was the site of the Māori fortress of Te Puia, first occupied around 1325, and known as an impenetrable stronghold never taken in battle. Māori have lived here ever since, taking full advantage of the geothermal activity in the valley for heating and cooking.
I liked the name. Maybe not the longest, but nice :). Wh in Maori is pronounced "f". a bit shocking for English speaking tourists.

In Whaka.... one can see the geothermal activity with the geysers and hot muds, the Maori dance performances and also the living kiwis in a special enclosure. But kiwis are night birds, so it was impossible to make pictures in the darkness.

Maybe you remember that I was to the place with the shortest name, in Å - a village in the Lofoten, Norway.
