Photographer's Note
Striking landscape from Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland near Rotorua.
Waiotapu, also spelt Wai-O-Tapu (Māori for "sacred waters") is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre, just north of the Reporoa caldera, in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. It is 27 kilometres south of Rotorua.[ Due to dramatic geothermal conditions beneath the earth, the area has many hot springs noted for their colourful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool, Artist's Palette, Primrose Terrace and boiling mud pools. These can mostly be viewed through access by foot, and in addition to a paid and curated experience, naturally forming hot springs appear around the area. The geothermal area covers 18 square kilometres. Prior to European occupation the area was the homeland of the Ngati Whaoa tribe who descended from those on the Arawa waka (canoe).
The Champagne Pool is behind, covered in the steam. The water temperature is close to 100 degrees.

Hi Malgo,
Boiling water in the backdrop of the yellow sulphur residue on the ground.
A phenomenon never I saw for real.
Intriguing, interesting reading in the note, wonderfully shown objects and allocated over the picture space.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Malgo
Fascinating images of this volcanic environment. I think the yellow is a sulphur compound. In combination with the steaming sources it looks very ominous. Excellent series to give us an impression of this area.
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hello Malgo,
Three bright and spectacular photos, which all gain a lot from being seen in the large versions. Sometimes size really matters. The photos are all very well exposed and the colours are fascinating. This is probably even more fantastic than Iceland.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Malgo,
Tu as eu bien du courage de t'approcher d'aussi près car cela doit sentir très fort si je me fie au souffre sur le sol en avant plan. La fumée apporte tout un bel atmosphère.
Amicalement

Hello Malgo,
No wonder this is thought of as a sacred place.
Without the knowledge, what would you think of these high temperature waters and steam gushing from the ground!
What an amazing country New Zealand is!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful view of the steamy b/g and sulphur coloured f/g.
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Malgo,
I think I will pass on the swimming, lol! This looks similar to Iceland or Yellowstone, neither of which I have visited. A good wide angled view and the safety fence and tourists add scale. Tfs!

Hi Malgo,
Yellow tones of sulphur look so surprising. You picked that well as a foreground theme while hot spring steams in the background. So fascinating.

Hi, Malgo.
Fascinating as we can see the powers of the earth in these places, good contrast this yellow foreground by the influence of sulfur, with the perspective of the lagoon, the steam and the line of trees in the background is a fantastic landscape.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

HI Malgo,
You have captured well the vapors coming out of the geothermal pool. The point of view is showing the details thesulfure colored eath and of the trees. The light is making the colours to stand out. Have a nice day.

Rzeczywiscie, pierwszy plan oraz opary z termicznych zrodel podobne do Islandii. Ale na Islandii nie ma takich lasow, w ogole jest raczej niewiele drzew.

Hello Malgo,
I believe you've been in Yellowstone NP. Isn't this here a bit similar? I don't know, I've never been in Yellowstone but have seen pictures of it.
It's very fascinating to see such a large geothermal area and also to find forests that nearby.
The rising vapors show that the water must be very hot. The place where visitors can come, is very clearly demarcated.
Best regards, Paul

Hello, Malgo!
The yellow ground in the foreground makes a very nice contrast with the background for its strong colors! The smoke creates a very interesting atmosphere and the people are a great scale to the image! Wonderful place and composition!

Ciao Malgo
Saluti

Hi Malgo
About my 2 nights in Groznjan. we arrived late in the evening, 6 pm or so on the first night, and we were tired from driving 6+ hours to get there from Split. So we wanted 2 nights in quite Groznjan to relax and unwind, take a break without any pressure :) It was nice
obviously this one reminds me of being in Iceland, i'm sure it does for you as well.
nice to see some blue sky in the upper bg too, and the lower fg is equally attractive. I wonder what the smell was like? Interesting pics and places
cheers

Well done!
