Orewa beach and Estuary

This is at the mouth of the estuary at Orewa, where the Council has placed these protective posts and ropes to prevent people damaging the grasses and plants they have planted, hoping to stabilise the sand there.

Today the water is calm, but there was a strong breeze blowing off shore, from the west. I had to be very careful with the sand and my camera. The water here is always changing, and the river itself can get quite dangerous.

Orewa Beach is a beautiful stretch of white sand about a mile long, and is located on Auckland's beautiful Hibiscus Coast It is the main centre for Dairy flat, Whangaparaoa, Waiwera and the Rodney District. It is 30 kilometres north of Auckland city, and close to the base of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The town has a population of 6000, and many people arrive to take holidays there.

Here at Orewa, sometimes the sea murmurs, and sometimes it roars.
