Photographer's Note

Auckland City from Devonport

This photo shows the Auckland CBD on the other side of the Waitemata Harbour from Devonport.

The blue building is the Devonport Wharf, quite an ancient edifice that was rebuilt in the 1990s but is about to be redeveloped soon, hopefully.

Before the Auckland harbour Bridge was built in 1959 Vehicular Ferry boats were used to carry cars and other vehicles over the Waitemata Harbour.

Devonport is a seaside suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Its population is about 18,000. It is located on the North Shore, at the southern end of a peninsula that runs south from Long Bay and including all the East Coast Bays, and extends five kilometres into the Waitemata Harbour.
