Cheynes Beach, a photo from Western Australia, West

Photographer's Note

This idyllic scene is near the city of Albany on the southwest coast of Western Australia. The area abounds in great coastlines with bold granite outcrops, pristine white beaches and turquoise water. This view is of Cheynes Beach, south of Albany, looking toward Limestone Head in the distance. At the end of the beach is the black hull of an old whaling ship, part of the whaling museum there. Australia used to be a whaling nation, but the slaughter of whales stopped many years ago, fortunately.

Scanned from a slide. A polariser was used to bring out the blue of the sky and minimise reflections off the water, so that the blue-green colour shows up.

Hello Vincent,
The frame is impressive, and contains the glorious colours well. The rock in the FG was a good move, as was the position of the 'band' of lighter water. This two tone effect is what draws the eye to this image! Well done.

Fantastic colors!! I am always looking for colors in the sea.... this one is gorgeous, and I don't see big waves (I am Mediterranean, I like to swim in a quiet sea)

Wow, what a beautiful spot. The water seems very clear! A long way removed from Melbourne's current winter misery...

Hi Vincent,
Beautiful coastal scenery. I see you have visited/photographed each of the Australian counties. It maybe not necessary obvious since the country is so huge. I think there were before pandemic direct flights to Perth so in my dreams I did think about actually making a trip to West Australia only since there is so much to see there, but then again it would be awkward not to visit Sydney I suppose.
