Photographer's Note

A while back our local photographic club had a night trip to an old nearby shale mining town - Joadja. The mine and plant operated between 1878 and 1911. The town is in a deep valley that required a very steep railway to get the product (kerosene) out and up to where I live in Mittagong.
For our visit we worked in pairs one taking photos and the other shining a moving torch on ruins such as this chimney stack, and then swapping roles. Tripods were a given.
Being in a deep valley well away for towns it was very dark so the stars were very visible.
For a better view, especially of the stars, go to the high definition version.
