Photographer's Note

The Royal Aero Club of Western Australia runs an event every year called "A Salute to Perth". This entails a mass fly-by of the city by as many light planes as can be mustered -- in tight formation.

I was lucky enough (as a student pilot at the time) to get a seat in the back of one of the 130 planes for this, so I took my camera.

I found it both a thrilling and a terrifying experience. All my training had been emphasising the need to stay AWAY from other planes and here we were in VERY close proximity while in flight.

I like this photo because it was taken with NO ZOOM -- that's how close we were.
