Photographer's Note
This is a follow on from my previous post.
After taking some photos of Maroon Dam and its surrounds, I saw an interesting phenomenon in the sky at sunset. As the sun was setting and getting lower and lower, a rainbowlike "Nike tick-looking thing" appeared in the sky and kept getting larger and larger. It was pretty cool watching it.
After some googling, this "thing" appears to be an upper tangent arc with part of a 22 degree halo underneath and possibly even the slightest trace of a parry arc if I'm correct.
I don't quite understand the full technicality of these arcs, but its something to do with rays entering a prism side face of hexagonal ice crystals in cirrus clouds and leaving through another at a different angle to the first. Please correct me if I am wrong, or if you know anything more about these arcs.
It was an awesome sight to see.
