Photographer's Note
Last night I went out with the astronerds again to see the Milky Way. I could see the full arc of it, but unfortunately, it's now a little high for my camera to capture it all. So here is a little part of it.
The red light was caused by one of the other astronerds unintentionally turning his head torch on and walking towards my camera. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was a happy accident.
Yarramundi is about an hour and a half drive north-west of Sydney. This particular spot is favoured by campers, fishermen and astronerds and is located at the junction of the Grose and the Nepean Rivers.

Heavens above Lisa, literally :) this is a great accident, the combination of the stars and the red tint is beautiful, and it almost looks like your photographed a willow the wisp, not something you get to di everyday. Cool photo. Skynerds be useful!

Ciao Lisa,
The unintentional swathe of red brings an interesting eerie effect to the scene and contrasts beautifully with the dark surroundings. Excellent realisation for this original capture, though I bet you were swearing under your breath at the time!

Hello Lisa,
This would have been a great composition in any case but the clumsy nerd made it very special. The red effect is wonderful. It looks like something that appeared to me after anesthesia when my mind was totally confused.
Best regards,

Hello Lisa,
That happy accident created a very unique and beautiful photo. The red glow seems like something from another world, and I'm surprised by how much of the foreground is illuminated by that single head torch. The exposure of the sky is perfect and fascinating, too.

the final results you get are awesome.
so you're saying if your friend didn't walk towards you the sand in the lower fg wouldn't be red either? heck, i think it turned out better this way.
and i love that blue grey sky color, its what i'd like to have on the walls of my appartment. sweet shot, its OUT OF THIS WORLD! haha...couldn't help myself

Hi Lisa
Accident = Amazing.
Very unusual and happy accident is the phrase that sprung to my mind and good to see a different night shot like this when the stunning fiery 'liquid red' seems to have an energy and sense of motion as if pointing towards main interest in the sky. Great too that the long exposure is so well balanced to produce this one brill accident very eye catching against the dark night. Fantastic imagery!! Congrats
Best wishes

Hi Lisa,
Whoa! I thought it was a natural phenomenon. The "unintentional turned-torch" produced an awesome image and most important, you were so alert to capture it. It was so lovely even on thumbnail!
Have a good day!

Carissima Lisa,
Yes, a happy accident indeed! This image would have been good enough without the red torchlight (and I'm sure that you took quite a few other photographs without the "offending" fellow astronerd "spoiling" them) but the deep red light picking out the details in this sandy shore and the water's edge certainly adds some very bold and striking foreground interest while the Milky Way, spectacularly seen high above, looks down on you.
A stunning image, very well seen and taken and with a very happy accident too!
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Thanks for the exif data too. That 14mm Samyang lens must be a cracker, being able to resolve such incredible sharpness wide open at f/2.8. And not a hint of any noise with that 5D Mk III at ISO 4000!

Ciao cara Lisa,
Accidents can often be the discovery of something new!
I love this accident!
The red light adds that sense of science fiction to your wonderful exploration of the stars!
It's a stunning shot! There is such a temptation to say, "Good Heavens! What a shot!"
There is definitely a trail from the sky to the land which adds to the whole supernatural effect!
Thanks for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Ciao Lisa,
Je me demandais bien ce qui avait créé ce trait rouge dans l'image et si c'était intentionnel. J'aime toute de même le résultat ainsi que l'effet de la longue exposition.

Hello dear Lisa,
I think it's a very happy accident too, the warm light created a very special effect and given your photo a fascinating abstract aspect. I like the subtle balance of the lines and the beautiful view of the starry sky, the textured ground and the mysterious shadows. It's great you were able to combine all these effects in such a smooth way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
Ourania

Hi Lisa,
Fun to see unexpected results of this accident. The charm is in not knowing beforehand how the final image looks. Strange to see head torch showing saturated red.
Maybe that would be a sort of disappointment if it was your only take of the Milky Way, but of course it isn't.

Hi Lisa
The flash of torch light adds an extra touch of drama. I do love the red foreground as well. A great night shot.
I'll try to be good and keep posting - off to Europe at the end of next week (not including your favourite Naples but including a month in Sicily) so will have to post from my tablet for a while.
cheers
