Photographer's Note

26 February, 2005, Milson's Point, Sydney

I met John seated on a park bench in a garden reserve adjacent to the Harbour Bridge, on Sydney's north shore. The Prime Minister's lodge was a short drive to the left at Kirabilly, Luna Park a quick walk down a street to the right, the iconic bridge immediately before us.

John claimed to be in tabloid journalism; we spoke of the frivilous hounding of the tabloid industry of its famous victims-- and he leaked a few tidbits about various political scandals and even the 'true' temperment of Prince Charles. Sydney was an escape from this world that oscilated between London and Florida, a place to hide and recouperate.

Having finally ran out of booze and cigarettes John decided to fetch more at the corner bottle shop, pausing briefly to read a garage sale leaflet that had blown off a telegraph pole or tree from somewhere on this nondescript road behind the park. I left him on the corner before making my trek across the bridge back into Sydney (workshop).
