Photographer's Note

Yesterday all around Australia, rallies were held in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. In Sydney alone, about 1,500 people marched. The march was a peaceful march in solidarity against the horrific phenomena which is taking place in the United States where on average two African Americans every day are being killed by police. It seems that no police officer ever gets brought to justice for these killings.

The phenomena is no different here in Australia with our First Nations Peoples. They are 2.7% of the Australian population, and make up 30% of the deaths in police or corrections custody. On average, a blackfella is being killed by police every 5 weeks. Not one single officer has ever been brought to justice.
