Photographer's Note
I go back to my archives for this series of pictures from Sydney in Australia, taken on an all too brief trip to that fair country in September 2014.
The Queen Victoria Building (or QVB), is a late nineteenth-century building designed by the architect George McRae in the central business district of Sydney, Australia. The Romanesque Revival building was constructed between 1893 and 1898 and is 30 metres (98 feet) wide by 190 metres (620 feet) long. The building fills a city block bounded by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. Designed as a marketplace, it was used for a variety of other purposes, underwent remodelling and suffered decay until its restoration and return to its original use in the late twentieth century.
The building was designed by George McRae, a Scottish architect who had emigrated to Sydney in 1884. At the time, Sydney was undergoing a building boom and since in architecture "no one school or style predominated", McRae produced four designs for the building in different styles (Gothic, Renaissance, Queen Anne and Romanesque) from which the Council could choose.
The Council's choice of Victorian Romanesque style conveys the influences of American architect Henry Hobson Richardson. The use of columns, arches, and a prodigal amount of detail such as was used by McRae in the chosen design are typical of Richardsonian Romanesque, an eclectic style identifiably established between 1877 and 1886.

Bonjour, cher ami Stephen,
Le style architectural ressort merveilleusement à proximité des immeubles de grande hauteur.
Un bâtiment qui doit être protégé auprès des Monuments Historiques.
Un grand merci pour l'historique.
Amitiés;
Philippe

Hello Stephen,
I think you were right to compose the shot in this way, ignoring the distractions of the street, for you have been able to show a very good comparison between this, attractively decorated stone building and those of a more modern nature. For me, it is a stark comparison for the new buildings fall far short of the visual impact that the QVB possesses.
Have a good Sunday,
Bev :-)

Hi Stephen,
The tight frame is putting the building in evidence. The point of view is showing a double perspective of the architecture of the Queen Victoria building. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Stephen,

Good evening Stephen,
This building is one of the most impressive edifices in Sydney, I reckon. Never been there, but saw a number of POV's upon. It is quite difficult to have a whole perspective, seems you found good spot for this.
Amazing archi.-design.

Ike

Hello Stephen
Thanks for also posting the exterior of this building. Most uploads on TE are of the interior. This gives me half a chance of finding it if I am ever in Sydney again. Good angled pov and perspective with excellent sharpness. Tfs!
