Photographer's Note

Katoomba Cascade, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. This is just above the main Falls, and the cascade is illuminated at night. On this evening, there was also a full moon, partially obscured by thin high cloud, and a 2 second time exposure was sufficient to render the scene and create a somewhat spooky atmosphere.

A series of small waterfalls flow over rocks to the Katoomba Falls where it drops over 55 metres over the escarpment into the Jamison Valley. An Aboriginal word meaning 'shiny, tumbling waters' the Katoomba Falls are lit at night and can be seen from a number of vantage points on Reids Plateau, the Round Walk and the Sceniscender at Scenic World. Katoomba Falls can be viewed from the side, above and below. If you walk along Peckmans plateau from Bus Stop 10, 11 or 12 you will get views of both Katoomba cascades and the top of the falls. To see the Falls in full you will need to ride the Scenic Skyway or venture into the valley below to view the falls towering above you from the Federal Pass bushwalk. The Katoomba Kiosk to Katoomba Falls bushwalking track takes about 45 mins. to walk and is 2 km long. This is a excellent return walk, starting from the Katoomba kiosk and winding down to the Furber Steps, where it continues along a well signposted side track to the Katoomba Falls lookout.
