Photographer's Note
I haven't been getting out much with the camera lately, but whilst visiting my parents the other day, managed to escape down the beach with the camera. As you know, it's winter here in the Southern Hemisphere, so you'll understand that the water in this ocean rock pool is extremely cold. Notice the splash marks at the foot of the photo, made by yours truly in brass monkeys weather. I've uploaded quite a lot of Sydney's ocean rock pools, but never this one in the Northern Beaches suburb of Freshwater. In the far background you can see St Patrick's Cathedral, which was the film location of Jay Gatsby's house in the recent film The Great Gatsby.
If you'd like to see more of Sydney's ocean rock pools, have a look at my Theme, Australian Rock Pools.

This looks cool and cold, glacial grey and icy blue. But wait...there's a splash of water, somebody's been in that pool...so I guess it's not Siberian after all.
A very appealing shot, Lisa. Thanks for sharing it.

The winter mood is palpable here Lisa with the only warmth coming from the few pink tinged clouds. I just love what the light has done to the railings; they look so burnished and tactile and contrast with the softer texture of the grey water. Very attractive work, did you actually swim in this cold water and was your speed up to par with your earlier achievement? Brrrr! Warm regards and a cup of hot chocolate Rosemary

Hi Lisa
It is hard to imagine Oz being cold and in the grips of winter, but Yep! this shot does it for me. I love the POV here it is strangely enticing but once I read your note, perhaps not. Mind you it is 30C here on the south coast of England at the moment but the sea is still blooming freezing. Always was a woos! An original and tantalising image which has a beauty all of its own. Like it a lot!
Brian.

Bonjour Lisa,

Romano

Hi Lisa
Now that doesn't look like Australia at all. The icy blue and grey water does look quite refreshing indeed. I bet you where fully awake after that swimm. It reminds me somehow of the waters of the lake at my in law's in Finland. I absolutely adore the sky in this one, gorgeous colors and textures.
have a good day

Hello Lisa,
Maybe most people will immediately be attracted by the magnificent clouds, but the composition of the lower part is really just as spectacular. The two diagonals going in different directions open the view across the pool towards another set of diagonals and a lot further. There's a lot of grey here, but so many shades of it, maybe 50 shades or more.
KInd regards,
Gert

Hi Lisa,
That water looks freezing! I'm not sure if it's the exposure but it the texture of semi frozen milk. To be honest, I would happily jump in there right now to escape the heat here, there is only so much a cold shower can do. The sky here is again superb, and you have a masterful knack of capturing these most moody skies. I'm beginning to suspect hat you may have control of the weather, which would be a pretty cool power. The perspective here is wonderful.
All the best

Ciao cara Lisa,
I like very much the depth of this composition and the way the perspectives split from the bottom border of the frame enticing us to follow them and get a good idea of the rock pool. What lies beyond becomes attractive and intriguing too, the patterns, colours and movement in the sky are fascinating. I love the melancholic, solitary and fresh atmosphere as well as the brightness of the pool within a darker ambiance. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

The corner skewed angel gave fantastic depth and unique sight over the pool, Lisa.
Wintery sky made me think you were yielding to summer when taken.
Fine clear shot, well premeditated.

Hello Lisa,I do like the composition and effect that the wide angle lens has had in distorting the shape of the pool.
The complementary pinks and blues are lovely and of course it`s pin sharp throughout.
Another venue to visit me thinks...
Kindest wishes Les.

Howdy FreestyleLisa,
Your positioning creates a nice triangular pool with ocean backdrop and dramatic winter clouds 'vision'. The Freshie 'infinity pool' is unusual to me because most of our Yank infinity pools are privately owned.
I bet you felt like "burnt toast" after exiting the pool?
In my youth I use to bodysurf without a wetsuit in our Calif 50 degree waters during winter, but rarely longer than half hour stretches.
Good job,
Cheers,
Ray

Hi Lisa,
Oh, c'mon...grow a pair, jump in! :) Not up for a polar bear swim?? I've got the complete opposite right now with the heat, I could easily go for a dive! I don't ever recall seeing a swimming pool used a a featured subject here...so kudos on the originality. The soft aqua color looks great against that touch of red in the sky and the subtle blue just behind the clouds, very soothing tones throughout.
What a cool setting this is...and quite literally too...having the pool just up from the ocean water with the skyline in the background is an amazing view. Forget swimming, I think it'd be best to just float around and take it all in at a leisurely pace! Great perspective here, the wide angle has really created some strong lines. Stay warm down there. :)
All the best,
Jason

Ciao Cara Lisa,
I'm glad I read your notes for those wet prints were something of a curiosity!
Back to the main shot! I just love your viewpoint which uses the diverging lines of the pool to draw the viewers into the spreading, wide angle of the shot. The predominating blues register a coolness, a chill, confirmed by the lack of eager bathers! The sky offers hope. The touches of pink and amber give the suggestion of warmth!
What are the temperatures that you experience in winter? Does it get very cold?
Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Ciao Lisa,
This pool is very big. I wonder what does it mean extremely cold. Haha, I found in Google - 19 grad. It would be warm in Balticum:). Splendid sky on sunset or sunrise. and in a distance one can see the beautiful view of the town. beautiful silky water, marvelous colours, as always on your shots.
Warm regrads

Hi lisa
Yes....we have become very familiar with your famous rock pool collections on TE. I know we both agree that TEBO occurs from time to time, but TE is awesome. Without it I would probably never have known about hundreds of places on this blue marble.
These rock pools are an excellent example of that.
Same with yr salt flats in Italy & countless others that go on forever.
Look at what we learn about Romania from Daniel....look what we learn about Ireland from Noel...Isreal from Ike...it goes on and on.
I'm so thankful for yr Australia shots, we have learned so much indeed.
And the friendships will last a lifetime too, which cant be measured by any # or statistic.
So keep posting yr Aussie shots, your Naples shots and any tavels shots too because TE sucks without you and so many other members just like you.
Love this post even though i cant swim lol!!!!
Cool atmosphere, no pools like this here in Canada!
Cheers

Hello Lisa,
This ocean rock pool has your 'photographic signature' and as always I enjoy the hard graphic lines against the natural surroundings. The colour of the silky water is gorgeous and what a magnificent sky! A very well constructed and taken picture.
I would like to jump in that pool right now as we are in an unusual heatwave in the UK with temperatures in the south soaring to 32 degrees C most days which, in a country where air conditioning is not usual, is hot!
Best wishes, Ann

well done you, on all accounts, but especially on capturing this beautiful and chilly looking scene. looking at this, and reading your notes, reminds me of the chilly morning in denmark when I became a viking. I thought having the genes was enough, but no. It's quite a sadistic culture, and apparently to be a real viking, you have to bath starkers in the chilly waters that separate denmark from sweden. and so...
looking at your brass monkeys (love that!) photo again, how on earth did you manage to hold the camera steady to achieve such a beautiful shot?! I would have been shaking up a storm.
beautiful job!

Ciao Bambina !!
I came back for another look at this photo.... because the triangular shape of the steel railing attracted my eyes...... then I enjoyed looking at the surface of the water ( enhanced by the filter ) and the drama in the sky...... so a very powerful but pleasant image. The presence of water bring the best out of you.
I agree with your technical point ref. my photo in Vegas..... when I see you next time I will tell you what is like to take photos when you are surrounded by thousands !!
Un abrazo my carinoso.

hi lisa,
your viewpoint and the resulting perspective here is superb, especially with the metal railings so close to the viewer in the foreground which almost seems within reach. the colours are wonderful, very subtle and moody. i love the pale blue line along the far side of the pool. the clouds and sky are stunning and complete a wonderful image.
regards,
brian
