Photographer's Note
Chronologically speaking this should have been posted before my last post as it was taken before the sun broke the horizon. Still at Avoca Beach but taken from inside the ocean baths. Most of the floor of the baths is sand however there are some scattered rocks along the edges as they make up the break-water walls and must be pushed around by the tides to some extent.
I have used a neutral density grad filter again as even though the sun had not yet risen the sky was certainly much more brightly lit than the foreground.

Great sunrise capture, Kathyn - the filter works perfectly, giving you really nice delicate light at a tough time to shoot. Great reds and oranges here, in a nice longer exposure.

Excellently controlled foreground. Well captured depth and saturation of colours with optimum light makes this such an exciting and beautiful scene. The Burning sunrise creates the background screen for the exciting colourwork and composition before us. Thanks for Sharing.

Hello Kathryn,
a wonderful composition with the stones settled between water and sandy beach leading us towards the rocky jetty and the sunrise beyond it. I love the textures and the colours, the lovely way the first light affects them bringing out a charm unique to this moment. I think that the darker shapes contrast and balance the lighter hues very effectively. I like very much the intense anticipation of the sunrise while the lights on the opposite shore are still on. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,
Ourania

Ciao Kathryn,
un 'alba spettacolare che tinge questa spiaggia di una luce calda dorata molto piacevole.
I grossi massi sulla spiaggia sparsi qua e lŕ danno profonditŕ allo scenario molto ben composto.
TFS !!!
Have a nice w.e.

Hi dear Kathryn, how are you?
Another dramatic and impressed shot indeed.
Wonderful and breath taking color gradation, a magical purple color world! Perfect framework and light control as usual. Wonderful and gorgeous atmosphere! Thanks for your sharing with the finest shot and have a good Sunday! Best regards,

Hi dear Kathryn
This is probably my favourite of your series. I love those purplish/pink hues, really my favourite time of the day. The image is perfectly composed, not exactly in the Rule of Thirds, but Im so glad you broke the rules and gave more room to the sky. The foreground rocks are wonderful and sharp, f/11 has worked its wonders here. I find f/11 to be the "sweet spot" on my 24-105mm lens for sure. Just a question about the filter: are you using Cokin filters? I have both Cokin and Lee and find that the Cokin accentuates the purplish colours more so than the Lee. Anyway, I hope the holiday is going well, just let me know when you're free next week as I'm still ok for the afternoons.
Cheers

So different in the palette range from the previous shot, yet equally beautiful. You are pulling them out from your collection like a magician. Keep up the excellent work Kathryn. Klaudio.

Hello Kathryn,
A splendid sunrise photograph whose drama has been accentuated by your wide angle lens and your clever use of an ND graduated filter. The colours are wonderful and the lighting superb, "modelling" all the little contours of the foreground sand and rocks and pools. Perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Kathryn,
You must have had a very good time Down Under. Getting up that early to catch the perfect light and spirit of the sea before the sun rises behind the horizon is very honorable. Great compo. TFS.

Hi Kathryn,
Most your landscape photos are amazing, specially the vivid colors. If I have to choose, this one I like the best.
