Photographer's Note
Umbrella, ella, ella . . .
Just another day.
Keeping the rain at bay.
Staying light on your feet.
Down mystical 33rd street.
Giving it to you straight,
Here in the Embrella State.
AND, for all you anti-triangulators out there, you know who you are, I've done a Workshop. Thanks for planting the idea.

Very well seen and realized. The typical nyc mood, in a rainy variation. I don like that.

Beautifully done! The clarity and details are great, even through a puddle of water and at 1/50 seconds. Perhaps thanks to ISO 160.
For me, most amazing is how you can see the shot, adjust camera to the correct settings, compose, aim, and shoot all before they walk away and the scene disappears.

Hi Hugh-
I've started seeing more and more attempts at posting interesting reflection photos from rain puddles on TE. This is by far the best I've seen.
The umbrella brings you in, and once opened, what I believe is the Empire State Building in the background, puts you into the photo itself.
I'm actually not sure what grabs me about this photo. However, I can see this hanging in a SOHO gallery.
Very well done photo. Not a fan of the poetic notes with photos on TE, but at least your is well written, and not just some ramblings that have nothing to do with the photo. This is just my personal opinion.
Great post (poem and all!!!)

Hello Hugh,
This is great! It's the perfect combination of imagination and skill. The images in the puddle are so clear and captured at exactly the right moment to create a magical composition. There is a dream-like quality to this image, too. I having a bit of a photo "drought" at the moment. Maybe the rainy weather signals an end to that... ;-)

hey this is really cool hugh... lucky you to have that green&white umbrella there, would have looked too ordinary with a black one... the big black triangle on the left is a bit too big and too black but who cares, still a good shot...
cheers

Hi Hugh,
full sun here in B, for a change:-)
so many elements for my pleasure here, the water poodles, the reflections, the architecture, the city life...I like very much the brilliance and the colors, as the composition, however I do find that triangle a bit too present for my taste.:-).
Compliments !

Bonsoir, Hugh.

Actually, I like this one even better!
The compo is more complexe, and more complete and the golden and green patches look cool.

So this is the latest and most famous bombilla photo recently, and literally, it is like a photobomb.
Great to have the colorful reflection, which makes it differ from most of the reflection photos taken under rain. A well seen, thought and designed image. Congrats!

Hello Hugh,
Among photographs in your rich gallery is this image — the product of an skilled photographer The reflection of the couple walking with the umbrella and the Empire State Building all appear to be reflected in a water puddle. If that is the case, you've inverted the image. Of course, it is a matter of taste, but I've come to appreciate the manner the eye processes it, in this instance upside down. Accordingly, I did another ws for you, and I hope you don't mind it as meddling. In my new book, "Leonardo's Universe," to be released in the fall by National Geographic Books, the 200+ color images represent a marriage of defining NGS photos and the greatest art produced by our species. There is a modern NGS photograph of the Bell Tower of Duomo in Florence, reflected in a puddle. It is highly evocative of yours. And they have not inverted the image. Initially, I wondered which way it should have been presented, and came away saying that they were right. Compare the ws and yours as food for thought. Again, I apologize if you regard this as meddling.
Warm regards, Hugh.

Just saw your hot-dog shot, but I wanted to comment on this shot of yours ever since I saw it the other day. It's attracted a lot of comments already, and rightly so - I think it's superb. One of, no THE strongest shot in your TE gallery, in my humble opinion.
It works really well - everything comes together very harmoniously, and the washed-out colour palette adds to the mood of the image.
I like Bulent's WS too - it works well either way up.
Great stuff Hugh!
Cheers,
Ben
