Photographer's Note

Worthington Hardware Co., Inc. is in fact a hardware store in downtown historic Staunton--barely. It would be much more acurately described by the term "antique store." It sits on Main Street and one can wander the main floor and the basement at will. I intend to post a couple more pictures of the interior. I'm not typically into antique stores, unless they house book collections (as this one does, click here), but this one has a good haunted house feel to it.

The Staunton downtown is not overly large, but quite interesting to walk around in. It's nestled in a valley bottom, with Mary Baldwin College residing on one side, and the train depot on the other. Several websites tell a bit about it; stauntonweb.com, and the National Park Service.

Staunton managed to escape the civil war in the 1860's unscathed, unlike many other Virginian towns. The city's official website contains a concise history.
