Photographer's Note

Kawuneeche Valley - Rocky Mountain National Park.

It was a cold snowy day here .. and that (and my last couple posts) had me searching for a bright summer image for today.

This shot is looking down into the valley after crossing over Trail Ridge road and the continental divide.

The Kawuneeche Valley is the center piece of the wilder Western side of Rocky Mountain National Park... The West side does not have the number of major hiking destinations as the East side ... and it is further from Denver and the front range cities so it makes for a quieter and wilder place ... Here you can hike along the Colorado River (knee deep at worst) at it begins the plunge that eventually passes through the Grand Canyon ..

Moose were reintroduced here and are doing very very well (and doing very well at avoiding my camera) .. The quiet valley eventually winds down to the fun little village of Grand Lake. ...

This photo survived in spite of me. I had just had my camera for a little while ... no real concept that maybe I should have used a different aperture than 5.6 ...
