Pencil Spires

In my previous post I wrote that the PPG Place buildings have 231 spires and that they look very similar to pencils.
The spires are therefore an important ornament of this building designed by architect Philip Johnson and his partner John Burgee. The building was put into service in 1984 with "groundbreaking ceremonies".

Although I find the overall design less successful, I am very enthusiastic about the design of the details and the excellent choice of materials. The beautiful reflection possibilities of the facades are in my next post. Today three impressions of the Pencil Spires .
