Hyperrealisme III
The next hyper realistic statue is to be found in the splendid Whitney Museum in New York.
It is “Woman with dog” – 1977 of one of the well-known Hyper-Realistic sculptors: Duane Hanson
In the workshop you can see the version Woman with Dog and Child
Woman with dog
Acrylic and oil on cast polyvinyl with clothing, hair, eyeglasses, watch, shoes, upholstered wood chair, ceramic dog with collar, and woven rug
Object Label
Like most of Duane Hanson’s sculptures, Woman with Dog projects an uncanny verisimilitude. Hanson often worked on a single figure for up to one year—locating models, making polyvinyl casts directly from their bodies (a method he developed in 1967), assembling and painting the casts, and finally outfitting the sculptures with clothing and accessories. Despite their extreme realism, however, Hanson’s sculptures are not usually likenesses of specific people. The pile of letters in Woman with Dog, for example, is addressed to a Minnie Johnson, but the model for the work was someone else who lived near Hanson’s Florida studio. Woman with Dog thus presents a constructed, even composite character. As Hanson remarked, "I wanted a credible, unpretentious working class type of woman at mail time enjoying the fellowship of a friendly letter and her pet dog."
Duane Hanson (January 17, 1925 – January 6, 1996) was an American artist and sculptor from Minnesota. He spent most of his career in South Florida. He was known for his lifecast realistic works of people. He casted in various materials, including polyester resin, fiberglass, Bondo, and bronze. His work is often associated with the Pop Art movement as well as hyperrealism.

Dag Rob,
Goed foto werk. bedankt.

Nice way to teach a child not to cross a line, and yet - show him modern art.
Nice indoor's picture, superb light managed.
Siome kind of daily-life realism.
Good afternoon, and thanks for your written critique on mine.

Grr...
Groeten

Hello Rob,
This is a delightful photo of a fascinating sculpture with a good connection with the mother and her child. I hope the little boy appreciated his mother's attempts to teach him about art and wasn't put off by the slight creepiness of the woman in the chair. In the workshop we can see that she looks almost unpleasantly real. You made good use of the light. I was thrilled to find a woman made by Duane Hanson in Vienna and included her in a workshop.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,

Saluti

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the action of the mother explaining to her son why there is tape on the floor. The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
Carol Jean just returned from NYC but missed seeing the Whitney because it was closed. I like the young mother (pointing) and child as a hyper-realistic creation. Forget the older woman and dog. Stamps in the 1970's cost about 11 cents to mail for a first class domestic letter. I'm sure such details are taken into account.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Rob
you have so many ideas leading to some amazing pictures. Here, you wander in an exhibition to detect the links between the real persons and the pieces of art. The mummy tells her son some remarks about this "live" sculpture
Cheers

Hallo Rob,
Mooi evenwichtig beeld !
Vele groeten, Paul

rob
another impressive piece, once again the technical elements are more important than the "imagination" I guess. I liked the way you included the mother who is almost teaching the son how to deal in front a piece of art.
hugs
