Photographer's Note

Some sights make even me, a native New Yorker, stop and take a second look. I was walking up Fifth Avenue when I saw these giant ads, juxtaposed against some seemingly tiny people. For some reason, only one yellow taxi had stopped for the red light. Usually there are lots of buses and cars crammed together at this spot. Something about this scene just seemed surreal to me.

This stretch of Fifth Avenue, between approximately 47th and 57th Streets, has some of the most expensive shops in NYC. There is always a mix of tourists, business people, and wealthy shoppers walking by - and there are also many homeless people camped out and asking for money. As a matter of fact, it was only after I crossed the street and had a closer look, that I realized the man seated in front of these giant, naked ladies, was homeless and trying to collect some money.

NYC can seem very surreal sometimes...
