Photographer's Note

With lots of pro dam propaganda after San Francisco's destructive earthquake fires, and guarantees of pure Yosemite mountain drinking water, plus the U.S. Secretary of the Interior was the City's politician - a dam was approved inside the National Park at Hetch Hetchy Valley. The U.S. Congress passed the Raker Act in 1913, permitting the dam construction....One month later on Christmas Eve, John Muir passed away...some say of a broken heart...
Today the San Francisco Bay Guardian persistently points out that when the City sold the dam's power to P G & E utility company, who then sold it to the public at a profit, violated the Raker Act's "non profit" statement.
