Photographer's Note

Times Square is a strange place. It can seem like a surreal Disney Land, where you can run into a giant Hello Kitty and SpongeBob SquarePants alongside a "Naked Cowboy" and an array of street performers. I personally have stumbled upon a colorful drag queen wedding, and a bunch of men dressed like dolls inside of giant plastic boxes!

During my most recent stroll in the area, there were three women dressed like showgirls, and wearing nothing more than tiny thong underwear, and feathers on their heads. They were topless, and had amazing body paint from neck to ankle. The women were posing with tourists for tips, and, needless to say, they were drawing quite a crowd.

On a side note, it is perfectly legal for women to go topless here in NYC, although you rarely see it. Once in a while someone will be bare-chested for artistic reasons, or to join in a protest of some kind.

I am choosing to post the most "innocent" of the photos I took that day. To my surprise, people I showed the photos to in person insisted that I shouldn't post them. I wouldn't feel comfortable posting the topless front views, but I can tell you that the artwork on the front side of these women was definitely colorful and eye-catching. :-) Each of the three showgirls had a different color scheme.

I am interested in knowing the opinions of my fellow TE members on these kinds of photos. I'm sure they will vary according to social norms in the area you come from. Even by Times Square standards, this was the raciest thing I've seen in a public space so far.
