Photographer's Note

We are marking the 150 year anniversary of the American Civil War (1861-1865 with reenactments all across the US especially in the states that saw the heaviest action. This and the next two photos show the reenactment of the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain which was a small battle here in Pulaski Virginia. The war was fought between the northern states (the Union) and the southern states (the Confederacy). Although the confederacy started fighting at Fort Sumter South Carolina, many southerners still refer to the period as "The War of Northern Aggression". The war produced as many American deaths as all the other wars the US has been involved in( over 1,000,000). These are Union reenactors preparing for the mock battle. In the background is a period mansion which has been restored and now serves as a bed and breakfast.
