Photographer's Note

The earthquake and tsunami devastating Japan was a major catastrophe and disaster for humans.
I was relaxing on the Hawaiian Island of Maui on March 10th when we were informed to evacuate the coast due to a tsunami approaching. After spending the night in my car Up Country, at 3 a.m. it hit Hawaii. Fortunately it was not as devastating as Japan's.

Yesterday afternoon people started returning to the coast, cleanup started on debris washed up onto land, and repairs started to damaged places.

The water surges continued all day along the coastline here. In this image the water has receded away exposing lava and coral, only to return within a few minutes with waves crashing into the short seawall.
