Photographer's Note
Today I'm uploaded one of my most original photographs. Nobody has ever photographed the Tetons from this spot and with this composition before! ;)
I never uploaded this photo because I thought the colors in the sky turned out too ugly. I didn't like the orange-ish haze in the sky. The reason the mountains are pink and there is an orange haze is because of all the smoke from distant forest fires.
For some reason the colors don't bother me anymore and I've actually grown to like them. All the pastel colors remind me of Easter. In fact I think the colors give this photo something unique, even if the composition isn't.
Location: Snake River Overlook at sunrise.

Yes Ryan...the reason I like the picture is because of the colours..it's a surreal combination of the orange peaks, the hazy (smokey) cover, the turquoise river and the green trees. It's a view which can be called a a painting...very nice!

Hi Ryan,
Who cares about this very famous pov, we all stand here if we had the chance. A famous overlook, so we all want that picture....and beside, what's new in photography. The only thing i can say that would maybe improve is using a 0.6 grad for the sky instead of the 0.3, the rest is awesome, what else to expect with these stunning colours...
Take care,
Henk

Hello Ryan,
This is an amazing shot and the colours are really beautiful. I don't think there's anyhting wrong with it, in fact the haze enhances the photo. I love the light on the mountains and into the valley. Great view with amazing colours. Excellent work, Ryan!

The colors are really good in your shot Ryan. I'm glad you came to like them The composition may not be unique, but it's still good. The thumbnail got my attention! Thanks for sharing.

Well, I've photographed the Tetons from that spot, and photographically I'm pretty much a nobody, so I guess you're right!
You got something distinctly different with those pastel tones. I don't think I would choose this over "standard" tones if I could only have one type, but given that you're very rightly trying to be different, this was a very good approach.

Hi Ryan,
Don't see why you have to hesitate for so long, This is a classic POV, it is so beautiful, you can't blame others that want the same POV for themselves. the thing is no matter what all photo will turn out a little bit different even if you stand there take the same photo and the same time. We all have a different POV and compsition. The pink tone is rather unique and contrast very well again the darker green tone, benefiting from the unfortunate fire storm. The clarity and sharpness seems to have suffered a little in incomparison the the foreground, but hey, I would be more than thrill to get this shot myself, So I'm not complaining. Congrats!

Hi Ryan,
Wonderful soft pastels, and I think that the hazy/mistiness adds to the charming and peaceful mood which this shot emits. Nice and gentle looking over the trees to the beautifully pink lit mountains in the distance.
I also find that sometimes when I first look at a shot I have taken for some reason I don't like it, but coming back to it after a long while a few months a year or whatever you sometimes get a different feeling or view of ones work.

Hello Ryan,
Yes, you are right, the special colors did this photo with the help of the haze providing a strange ambiance.
It is the first time I see the Teton from this point of view and it evidences well the near environment of the forest and the flat area before being stopped by the cliffs.

Hi, Ryan. The beautiful green of the trees stands well out against the pastel colours of the background. The river is a good lead into the image, pointing towards the tops in the background. A special light which creates a very nice atmosphere.
Have a nice day,
Philippe

Hi Ryan,
Hmmm, no, I don't think I've ever seen this POV before... ;o)
No matter how often it has been photographed, this must be one of the best shots I've seen from this location. I just LOVE what you didn't like about the shot - I think the orange/pink cast is what makes this shot really unique, like you said. I'm sure glad you changed your mind and presented us this superb shot.
Best wishes, and Happy Easter,
Claudia

Hi Ryan, I agree with Claudia: the reason you dislike this shot is the reason I love it. How could you think of discarding this photo???? The image is just stunning: it's sharp, well-metered and beautifully composed. I;d be proud to have it hanging on my living room wall! Best regards, Lisa

hi Ryan,
the colours are most unusual, I don't think I've seen such a combination of pink and orange in nature before. the result is stunning, no question about that, especially with the clear blue of the river visible through the trees. great shot, I like it a lot.

Hi Ryan
This morning fog at the bottom of the Tetons is beautiful. I also like the colors in the sky.

Hi Ryan:
Actually, I think some guy named Ansel ripped off your POV--what a jerk! ;) Funny you should mention not liking the colors. I shot a sunrise in the Tetons and didn't like the orange colors at the time either, but now I'm considering posting a shot from that shoot. Anyway, the thing I like the most about this shot is that it looks totally natural. It's beautiful, but it doesn't look photoshopped in the slightest. I like it. Great exposure. Is that mist/haze in the distance, or is that your grad line? ;) Nice work.

Hello Ryan!
That's a wonderful picture, with pretty adequate sharpness, correct exposure, natural, soft and beautiful colors!
The pov was extremely well chosen and the composition very well elaborated!
The landscape is fantastic and your photo has enhanced its inherent beauty!
TFS - Congratulations!

The trees are growing for the past 60 or 70 years. A copy of the original Ansel is hanging in my home wall, and I find your version a bit more...colourfull :-D
Originality is important, but beauty is more important.
The haze is washing out the contrast in the sky a bit, but...the hell with tecnical details...I like it.
Cheers Ryan.

Hi Ryan,
Very nice! I would not have been too afraid to post this one!
The forest fires were a blessing in some way, because without them you would have never gotten these amazing unnatural colours. The PoV is nice, what you do with it even nicer.

Hello Ryan! We all have THESE POVs where we live but on the other hand people share it for a reason because it IS beautiful. I know what you mean with not uploading ... Just the other day I looked at some pictures and I thought why I have never published them but I guess many times we are too hard with ourselves and for other people it works very well. This is a wonderful image with special colors which I know a little from travelling in Colorado but also from the Alps (probably no fires burning there but simple smog from the big towns around). I hope you had a nice Easter. Best regards, Barbara.

Hey Mr. Ansel "Color" Adams! :) I never saw this view before... because it's your view. I love the impressive detail and the fact that you haven't a single clipping shadow. Really great. I know what you mean about those colors in the sky. I usually also tend to run from them, but I also get used to them once in a while. Here, I really thing they make sense to enhance the quietude of the scene. Really nice!

You might try converting this to black and white. I've heard this view might look good that way.
Naaaaa... forget it... bad idea. LOL!!! ;) ;)

Hi Ryan
This national park does look stunning but as it wasn't possible to include everything in 3 weeks, we'll have to make another trip.
Anyway, I like the contrast between the green of the trees and their sharpness and the softer pink tones of the mountains. The clouds fill up the sky nicely and the river adds depth.

A classic.. love the green, lush foreground, and the orange haze is fine too.. I'm more bothered about the white haze inbetween.. looks a bit like a gradient layer gone bad, though it's probably natural.

Hi Ryan,
strange and beautiful, the haze and the colors make something like a passage froma photograph to a pastel drawing.
It seems a little bit "wrong" when you look at it the frst time, but you can't avoid to love it, yet.

Hi Ryan,
The reason why I love this stunning picture, like so many here, is the colours! The colours and the haze make the scenery look almost surreal! So I'm glad you changed your mind and decided to post it after all.
