Photographer's Note

This is a view from Zion National Park's East Rim Trail. The trail starts 150 yards west of the Park's East Entrance, and covers a total distance of 10 miles. At the end of the trail catch the public Zion Canyon Shuttle bus back to your parked car. The average hiking time is 6 hours.

The East Rim Trail is perhaps the "biggest bang for your bucks" and most scenic in all of Zion. The hike begins with a backdoor view of Checkerboard Mesa as the trail follows Clear Creek, gently climbing through juniper and pine forests. On top of the Mesa is a spectacular view of Echo Canyon a photogenic slot canyon. Three major areas are accessed next - Jolly Gulch, Steve Spring, and Echo Canyon. Then the trail descends into Zion Canyon with all its major landmarks, the path is narrow and rock lined, winding around Nature's towering temples showing off the incomparable maginificence of Zion's geology - crossbedded sandstone cliffs, windswept slickrock slabs, fossilized sand dunes, and giant monoliths everywhere.
