Photographer's Note
What would a race be with out a Ferrari?
This is a 430 GT Ferrari racing in the American Lemans Series at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Piloted by Mika Salo and Jamie Melo, the Ferrari came from the back of the grid to win it's class, GT2, in dramatic fashion. There is something wonderful to see a Ferrari hurtling around a track, hearing the scream of the motor (sad that it's not a V12...but the V8 still sounds pretty good), and the squeal of the tires. It quickens the heart, directs your attention, and stirs your soul.
Nothing special on the image, shutter priority @ 1/125 to track the car at the end of the front straight at ~190 MPH. Everything else was all Nikon.

hi Robert,
i tried the panning technique at the Tour de Gastown, but none of them turned out half as well as your photo. do you have a special "formula" on selecting the shutter speed for cars vs. bikes? i also like the slight tilt of the photo, adds even more dynamics to the photo. nice mini-series :)
cheers,

Hi, Rob
Why do you say there is nothing special on the image? I think, it is a very special shot. I couldn't take a picture of a moving old tram in Lisbon...:) This shot is a perfect example of a panning technique, amazing deep colors, sharpness, focus, stripes and crop. I can feel the speed and motion. Excellent composition indeed, Rob
