Photographer's Note

Zion's Temples of Nature are first accessed by roads then hiking trails reveal them in leisurely details.
The main roads are: Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway, Kolob Canyons Road, Knob Terrace Road, and the major one - Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. A shuttle bus now serves the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, to reduce individual auto traffic.

This image is near the entrance to the Scenic Drive, the Park's centerpiece. The surrounding cliff walls are contrasted by the Virgin River meandering through the canyon. Fremont cottonwoods, willows, and velvet ashes along its banks provide shady picnic spots or excellent paths to stroll. Early morning and at sunset are best times to search for photographic opportunities, and best for observing animals. Birds and Muledeer seek refuge from heat within the tree canopies. Higher up among the rock refuges are the ringtail cats, bobcats, foxes, rock squirrels, and cottontails.
