White and Gold, a photo from Utah, West

Photographer's Note

Who could resist aspen so brilliant, white snow and bark with the white clouds? I couldn't.

I couldn't see DOF on my zoom, so I used my trusty 28mm f2.8 with a DOF scale, as I wanted to keep enough shutter to not show camera shake (I was cold) and I didn't want to crank the ISO up to add an possibility of noise in the sky. (I know for an 800 pixel image no biggie.)

What a gorgeous place this must be. With the breeze it must be like waves of gold. The color combinations are quite pretty and the trunks appear so fragile. I for one, am happy you did not resist the call to capture this serene scene.

Beautiful colours. I know a lot of people say that but it is more 'true' of this shot than most! I also like the composition - though you're not getting the full benefit of the 28mm lens with the crop factor.

I had the same dilemma and ended up initially going for the 18-70mm lens (nearly as sharp but not the same low light capability) and subsequently for the 17-55mm f2.8 which, as far as I can tell, is a match for almost any Nikkor.

The exposure is perfect. Virtually no burn out and no blocked shadows. Absoloutely stunning - one I'd love to have framed and on the wall.

I went to University in Utah and I remember well the stunning fall colours, so well captured here. Autumn gold!!
The composition with the hill in the background, white of the trunks and snow on the ground. It has it all!
