Photographer's Note

This is an unconverted infrared image of the rocks in Capitol Reef. I hesitate to name this particular formation as all over the web, it is named different things. These particular rock formations are 'white' naturally; the infrared enhances this, particularly on a very sunny day, which I was lucky enough to have.

This formation, and many more beautiful ones, are right on the highway (Rte. 24) - which is why one sees so many of them.

Personally, I think the desert is well served in infrared. The textures and lines pop as color is de-emphasized. The results of b&w images taken in infrared are completely different than those taken in color and converted, unless one does a bit of photoshop work. (This image has auto-levels only). Of course, it seems people either love or hate infrared...
