Photographer's Note

Bryce Canyon has so many different looks. Depending on season, time of day, weather, atmosphere, it rarely looks the same twice. And I have mentioned this before, it can be a very challenging environment for the photographer.

I did not write down the location where I photographed this image, I had been hiking around with my family, and shooting digital. We referred to this as "The Kings Court," not an official name, because my oldest son thought the formation looked like his chess board.

I wanted an image on big film, and pulled out my small Sinar and grabbed a 4x5 frame, can't say I do this too often any more.

The image is the result of a scan and crop, very little post processing. I had forgotten the punch of Velvia 50.

I used a 300mm to compress the depth a little bit.
