Photographer's Note
Arches NP has many curious areas where the observer or photographer can go a little crazy. First of all, the color and texture of the area just is abnormal. The scenery is terrific. On this hike towards Whale Eye arch, we encountered some interesting deadwood. The color, shape and texture caught my eye.
It wasn't all that bright, so I used a 28 2.8 and stopped down to 5.6. If it had been a traditional film shot, I would have needed to expand the contrast a good 2 stops.

Hi Dana,
Interesting shot: you're right about the color and texture! The red in the image makes it stand out quite a bit, and the shape of the tree is cool.
I'm a sucker for frames, and I personally think that a white frame would have done the shot some good. That's just me though!
Thanks for sharing,
Jas

You have a winner here,Dana.
A good composition in an alien environment.
Good details with an also good contrast.
I see death reaching to the sky in this arid environment with life sneaking in the left corner,so there is hope.
Have a good evening

Hi
Almost every photo from this NPark shows famous arches. Yours brings up something different.
This is my next-long-weekend destination - hope I'll bring back pictures with such amazing colours!
Take care

Hi Dana,
Awesome shot! Good framing and the tree is very sharp with plenty of details. The colors are really 'out of this world' and I like the touch of green in this picture. What a wonderful place. TFS!

Rich colours and stark compostion make this an eye catching image. Strong focus and sharpness add to the quality of the image. Well done.
Cheers, Paul.

Gorgeous colors. You sure you weren't on Mars? So the color is just abnormal. I must make a note to travel to Arches NP. BTW, you have a Nikon zoom. Why did you use a 28 mm prime? I have that prime, and it is extremely sharp, which is my guess on why you used it.
