Photographer's Note

While wandering downtown Portland, just past the area with high end hotels (which you can see in the background, the white building with the flags is the first), I encountered the 'rent by the hour' hotels, which were less than inviting. This picture captures this dicotamy of the city, how close they are and how they are worlds apart.

"While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay.
There are frail forms fainting at the door.
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary."
-Bob Dylan "Hard Times"
