Photographer's Note

After an ardous climb of 500 feet over deep, slippery sand to the summit of Cape Kiwanda, I was rewarded with a stunning view of a dead tree apparently "sand blasted" by millions of fine particles of blindingly white sand. I waited for the right moment to photograph the sand blowing past the tree; not too much and not too little. Needless to say, there were fine particles of sand in the camera, as the wind was most strong off the Pacific Ocean, about a 1000 feet away. The camera was hand held. This was taken with the same camers (Canon EOS 20D), as the color version, but I used the red filter setting in the camera menu and a polarizing filter. Focal length was about 90mm, equivalent.
