Photographer's Note
After an exhausting and troublesome week, coupled with temperatures that reached 120f/49c here in Phoenix, I thought I could use a day at the beach! Well, that’s not so easy when you live in the desert, so I had to opt for the next best thing…a picture of such a place. :)
This was taken early enough in the day that the haze around the coastline of Cannon Beach had not yet burned off, which left a rather dull tone over the area. Despite the lackluster appearance, it was actually a nice day to be out and about enjoying the cool Pacific waters.
I would have thought that the fast shutter speed was adequate for this shot, but I believe my distance and the larger aperture for this hand held picture wasn’t quite enough to obtain a sharper image!? Putting the technical details aside, the naturally layered landscape and scene that was taking place in front of me was too good to pass up. A leisurely walk, or time to bodyboard…your choice!
Thanks for stopping by!

Bonjour Jason,
Cette photo sent bon le vent, l'eau et les embruns de sel qui recouvrent toute la plage mais qui est aussi invitante que les vacances. Les jeunes s'amusent comme toujours dans ces situations.
Amicalement

hi jason,
just as you said in your note, despite its focus to nowhere, this is an awesome photo with so much depth. usually sunshine is expected from such beachscapes, but the misty atmosphere and dull colors give an extra oddity and interest to the result.

Hi Jason,
I hope you are surviving the heat, its being reported on the news here in Ireland that some areas are as high as 58 degrees. Unreal!!
I do like your shot, and it reminds me of two things. The first thing it reminds me of is those beautiful scenes from that bay in Vietnam, where strange rock formations come out of the sea like mystical mountains. he rocks rising here are like that too. The other thing it reminds me of, is a zombie invasion, and what makes that pretty cool is that I've never seen one come from the sea. Sea zombies is a totally new concept for me, and a very cool one.
I admit that the zombie thoughts came from the thumbnail, when I click on the shot I can see this is just normal happy non-brain eating folk goin about their beachy business, but I still like the concept.
The mist in the shot creates a great effect.
Cheers from Ireland!

the layers of hills, the impressions of the dark rocks jutting from the sea ~ so much more interesting than if it was shot in full sun and clarity.
it's wonderful, this playing in the mists ... both you and the beach boarders ... and a nice respite from the heat.
thanks for sharing, jason ~

Not envy at your 40C heat, Jason.
Sure looks as the weather gone mad all over the world: Global warming it called.
Nice cold around the beach, some years back - but taken the scene, from a water level - that's cool.
Endure the big heat, stay indoor as much possible.

Hi Jason,
Nice shot of the sea with a hazy background. The shot lacks a bit of sharpness probably due to cropping.Superb pov and exposure. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Best Regards

excellent combination of daily life and nature shot. Love the activities in foreground with the beautiful lines of those mountains in haze... Perfect presentation. Love the look of almost black and white background with such colourful FG...
12 out of 10 :)
best wishes.

Hello Jason
How are you coping with the extreme heat, it sounds awful to me.
Now I think the picture is even better with the mist than it would have been with a dull blue sky. The mist adds so much atmosphere to the scene and the misty mountains (reminds me of the Hobbit :-) have so much more character like this. Anyway the folks seem to enjoy their day at the beach.
Have a good week

Hi Jason
An understatement! What a horrible week you and your countrymen have been through and my heart bleeds for those brave, dear young men who perished in the fires.
A photo to cool down with, so to speak. I like the silvery tones and the way the scene has been balanced with the people on either side of the frame. There's a great sense of movement and the excitement of summer. Nice work and I hope everything is okay with you and yours.
Best wishes

Hi Jason,
I was here twice, at this beach, both time the weather was very blow, with low cloud and not much visibility. Kind of similar to this condition. But at least here you ahve a few people that adds to the liveliness of hte beach. Exspeically with teh two boys in the foreground playing and running with the dashboard. Not the best sharpness and focus, but I love the fun spirit and energy of the boys playing.
Happy New Year to you. There are plenty of days left to do more photos and resolve any resolutions :)

Hello Jason,
For some reason, those waters don't look that inviting to me but if I had a surf board, that might be a different story. Notwithstanding my preference for beaches, this is a lovely photo that shows the majestic waves of the Pacific and the way some people have chosen to enjoy them.
Regards,
MT
