Photographer's Note

Briefly going back to Ventura's Auto Show Festival, is this view of a land rocket ship, the Speed Demon. On an ancient dry sea bed at Wendover, Nevada, on September 17, 2012, George Poteet drove his Speed Demon to the speed record for piston driven vehicles. Poteet accelerated his Demon to 706 KPH (439 MPH). He has also been clocked at 457 MPH in a one way direction. Ken Duttweiler built the Chevy engine.

American auto enthusiasts have long been fascinated with going faster and faster with their own "speed demons", including me. And the West's deserts are a fine place to test your vehicle's acceleration, even illegally sometimes on a long straight stretch of desert road.
