Photographer's Note

This shot was taken from the outside observation deck of the Stratosphere Casino in Las Vegas. The scene is looking North at the casinos of the old downtown section around Freemont street. The Stratosphere is the tallest building West of the Mississippi River. The elevator takes you up 108 floors (1,150 feet) in 35 seconds. The security officers would not let anyone take tripods up to the observation deck. They cited safety reasons due to people falling over them. I improvised by placing my camera on top of one of those veiwing mechanisms that are at all sceneic locations that you put quarters into and look thru. I turned it sideways, and composed my shot thru my electronic screen. Started the 10 second sel-timer, and steadied the thing before the camera shot off the two second exposure. The darkness in the backround is the start of the mountains, and development has stopped.
