Photographer's Note

This is the often photographed set of Victorian homes viewed from Alamo Square park in San Francisco. The view is also commonly referred to as "Postcard Row". My caption "Painted Ladies" is the collective American vernacular term used to describe Victorian houses which are usually painted in a multi-colored pastel scheme.

My post joins a couple other recent high quality images of this same place. My intent along with showing the standard "postcard" view of this place is sharing the atmosphere of this great location when I visited.

It was a beautiful, clear almost hot Autumn day when I arrived at the park on Saturday afternoon. It was quite a festive scene awaiting me when I walked up. There was a seemingly ad hoc party occuring (See the picture of that here.) People were socializing, drinking, walking their pet turtles, break dancing, generally having a good time and of course taking photos. It seemed like a uniquely San Franciscian experience.

I also got a chance to walk over to the famed houses themselves and here's a picture of the details. Again, very San Franciscian.

Well I hope you enjoy!
