Photographer's Note

This is one of the features at the Carlsbad Flower Fields: a sweet pea maze! These lovely, fragrant flowers have been grown on trellises to form a maze which visitors can attempt to solve; it's trickier than it looks! This remarkable site is absolutely stunning. I would recommend it for anyone who is within driving distance. It's only open from March to May each year There are usually events, especially on the weekends, and there are quite a lot of other features on-site, including a wagon ride with cars pulled by antique tractors, a sweet pea maze, and playgrounds. There are few places like this in the world, and even fewer in the US. These are Ranunculus, a not terribly well-known flower in the US, but they are really stunning! Such vivid colors! I have a whole series that I would like to eventually post. The bright overhead sunlight made it a bit difficult to capture, but they weren't open at sunset, so I tried to make due the best I could to capture what it really looks like. Photos just don't do it justice, of course. It's hard to imagine what 50 acres of flowers really looks like!
