Photographer's Note

"Eerie desolation" is the phrase which Sasa (designsoul) used to describe the feel conveyed by another of my photos of Trona. I think it's a very apt description of this desert town, dominated by the chemical-processing plants that mine soda ash and borax from the adjacent dry lakebed. Here, on a Saturday, the streets are deserted. The weather is pleasant (maybe 25-30 C, 80 F) but there are no signs of children playing, or of backyard barbeques. Empty open space and surreal atmosphere seem abundant, however.

I hope no one from the Trona Chamber of Commerce reads TE, otherwise I'm going to get one nasty phone call.

I deliberately desaturated somewhat, to emphasize the bleakness.
